In the short few years of their existence they have become a powerful force in advocating for cyclists rights and safety.

Occupy Toronto Market Exchange

After a visit to St. James park and taking in a general assembly meeting left me suprisingly happy. I left feeling I had just witnessed something very beautiful.

I honestly think there is great wisdom being demonstrated in this movement. A wisdom which is severly lacking in our current rulers(both corporate and political), in the simple fact that none of these people want to be the leader and make all the rules. The way they are organizing things, the co-operative manner in which they are accomplishing various tasks, and form of their discussions is as progressive and impressive as any group I’ve ever seen trying to work together to do something good.

Very likely Toronto's most beloved organizer. He rides a bike, is in a band and has been involved in oodles of grassroots projects aiming to improve quality of life in our city. Basically he does what our elected officials should be doing.

Coach House Books has put together a video series showcasing organizations and individuals actively working to make our community better. The ideas for the videos came out of their book: Local Motion: The Art of Civic Engagement in Toronto

The interview with Jutta Mason talking about Dufferin grove park is also highly recommended. Hope you can take some inspiration from these videos and get involved with projects in your neighbourhood.
